Testimonies...

Here you will find some thoughts from those who have taken part in our Christianity Explored courses.

Initially I was concerned that the Christianity Explored course would not be for me. Why? Because I thought people who were further on in their faith would be attending and make me look silly or feel stupid.

Whilst I have attended church for as long as I can remember, I do not and never have professed to know everything there is to know about the bible and Christianity to anybody either within our church community or ‘outsiders’. When I am asked why I go to church I have always said to learn more and to become a better Christian and it was for this reason I decided to leave my fears behind and attend the latest course.

My apprehensions were soon dispelled as I realised I was not alone and that others in the group had the same concerns.

The course revolved around the Book of Mark and each week we were asked to do a home study that was discussed before watching an episode of a dvd followed by a discussion.

Everyone joined in and given the mixed age range we all got on very well and the discussions proved fruitful and helpful in building relationships with people we knew little about previously.

During the course we met on a Saturday from 9.30am to 3.30pm with a lunch break. On that occasion we were asked to look at 4 separate topics, The Church, The Holy Spirit, Prayer and the Bible. To say the day flew would be an understatement. Whilst not everyone that had been to the Monday evening sessions could attend, there were still 6 of us, and it proved to be an eventful and in some cases emotional day.

On the last evening, the group all agreed that some questions remain unanswered but it was decided that this was to be expected and that in order to become better Christians a life long commitment is required and like a marriage or friendship would have its peaks and troughs to overcome.

I have come away from the course wanting more and with the hope that similar courses will follow in the none to distant future.

I would recommend this course to anyone, at any stage of their faith. The home studies do not require you to have a theological background; they are bite size bible passages on which you are required to answer simple questions. You are given the opportunity at the end of the home study to write down any questions you have that are open for discussion the following week.

The presenter of the dvd each week (Rico Tice) is down to earth and easy to listen to and the questions that follow, whilst thought provoking, proved to be just right to start a discussion and air your views.

Richard was there to keep things on track and helped immensely in clarifying certain issues on which the group was unclear and I would like to personally thank him for his contribution.

Roll on the next course!
